DT tuesday & pick of the week

Hello my FABULOUS friends, and happy Tuesday!
I hope you had a wonderful weekend!

Lately, I've been drooling over the CUTE unity shirts that have recently been added to the Unity site… (check it out HERE) and since I don't have one *YET*, I figured why not breathe new life into an old shirt with a little Unity of my own?

Did you know that you DON'T have to buy a whole bunch of fancy fabric paint to paint fabric? Check this out!
It's a clear textile medium that you mix in with the acrylic paint you already have sitting around your studio, and BOOM! You got fabric paint! SWEET!  You can find this with the bottles of cheap acrylic paint at stores like JoAnn or Michaels. Or you can check it out HERE. There are a bunch of different brands that sell this stuff, so see what you can find!

Now on to the fun stuff!

Step 1: Following the directions on the bottle, mix your paint and textile medium. (this brand is a 2 parts paint to 1 part medium ratio)

Step 2: Ink up your stamp with the paint mixture…
I'm using a BRAND NEW stamp from this month's Layers of Life kit… check it out HERE

Step 3: Stamp onto your fabric. I like to tape my fabric down to a piece of cardboard to help keep it in place and taunt.

*If you find that parts of the image didn't stamp well, you can use a small paint brush to fill in the gaps… personally I like the grungy, worn look, so I left it imperfect.

Step 4: Allow to air dry following directions on the textile medium bottle… for me that was 24 hours.

Step 5: Heat set with an iron.

Now, we could totally leave it there… but, as I was told the other day "You are artistic, you like pretty things" Why, yes, yes I do. I like pretty things that have just the right amount of glitz, without being too flashy…

Step 6: a few strategically place rhinestones…

(yeah, I'm no model… but I had to see what it looked like on!)

Now… what other shirts do I have that need a little jazzing up? (this could get dangerous! LOL!)

One thing we like to do here at Unity, is share the work of others that inspires us...
I am CONSTANTLY amazed at all the INCREDIBLE talent I see over at the Unity {show and tell} FB group. Here's a recent one from Kathy Montgomery

Isn't that BEAUTIFUL?  I love the white doodles, and ADORE the cheesecloth! You can check out all the fabulous details on her BLOG

We would LOVE to see YOUR work (no matter what level you think you are at)! It's all so inspiring, and it is such an amazing and supportive community! I'm so grateful I'm a part of it!

SMAK Saturday!!

Hello there Unity friends,
It's Karen, and today I'm sharing a 12x12 canvas that I made using quite a few Unity sets...
I drew my inspiration from a past Wildflowers & Wings SMAK kit!

I especially love to mix and match different Unity stamp set onto canvas projects!
Here you can see that I used the sweet little wildflowers, colorful leaves, distressed grid
on the top corner of my project.  Lots of mixed media products used like Pitt Pens, paint,
bubble wrap, Gelatos, Neocolor II Artist Crayons, distress inks & markers & stencils.

I also used some of the leaves from this month's KOTM, bitty backgrounds, and another butterfly!
More watercoloring and stamping with distress markers and inks...

Just another view of my girl colored in Neocolor II Crayons, and Faber Castell Gelatos!
I wanted to create a whimsical feel, so I surrounded her amongst
bubbles, wildflowers, leaves, and butterflies!

I even gave her some wings of her own, and added a little puffy heart.
Did you catch that I used the some more wildflowers from the SMAK kit to make a collar for her dress?
Then, I stamped the SheArt Print Texture stamp right on the dress...
afterall, SHE is all about positivity!

I hope this will inspire you to pull a few different Unity stamp sets
to see what beautiful creation you come up with...are you up for the challenge?

We are nearing the end of the month, but there's still time to grab this month's SMAK and LOL sets!!

Friday Reminders

This post includes a couple of gentle reminders.

There are only TWO days left to add this BEAUTIFULLY detailed Stamp of the Week to your crafty stash.

I have no doubt it will make YOU and others very happy.

Below is a picture of a card I put together using this awesome Stamp of the Week. Clean and simple cards have been all the rage the past few years and sending them to friends and loved ones can be much easier than the bulky dimensional cards. Right? Sometimes, though,  I’m inspired by a stamp to build a card from the stamp up and then out.  Do you know what I mean?

This week’s Stamp of the Week made me a card builder using layers, dimension, folds, pop dots, glossy accents, embossing folders, etc. I tried to stop after a couple of layers but I just kept building a card to showcase this fancy bird. It’s pretty fancy and deserves the attention I think. It’s fun to color.

wishing you happiness

I’ve included a very QUICK video for dimensional demonstration purposes only.  I just couldn’t capture the dimension of the above card with my camera. It’s quick, I promise, under 30 seconds.

Watch video to see the dimension and layers of the above card in all of its glory!

Here’s some inspiration for you all using this beautiful stamp from other members of our Design Team at Unity. They are all so beautiful and fancy, clean and simple, and some with layers and dimension.

And another friendly reminder . . .

Today is the 29th of August.  That means you only have two more days to become a Kit of the Month member, so that you are GUARANTEED the August 2014 kit, “Summer Collapsed into Fall”.

Click on the graphic below to take you to the Kit of the Month page at Unity.

Here’s a simple, little card I made using this month’s kit.

thank you teacher

Since you're all signing up for the Kit of the Month and Stamp of the Month, don't forget to shop Unity this weekend. As always, there are wonderful new releases and a sale calling your name.

PLUS Unity has things to wear, so you can craft happy and in style. I’ve got MY hoodie. Do you have yours?

I’m getting one of those t-shirts, too.

Have an awesome weekend!
